A woman says her husband’s death could have been avoided had doctors at a Belleville hospital timely diagnosed him with a blocked artery in his lung.
Delisa Childress filed a lawsuit March 4 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Maria L. Scarborough, CEP America and Protestant Memorial Medical Center, doing business as Memorial Hospital of Belleville.
In her complaint, Delisa Childress alleges her recently deceased husband, Paul Childress, went to Memorial Hospital of Belleville where he sought treatment for his chest pain and shortness of breath. However, Scarborough, who was working for CEP at the hospital, failed to timely diagnose and treat Paul Childress for a blocked artery in his lung, which is commonly referred to as a pulmonary embolism, according to the complaint.
Before his death, Paul Childress suffered permanent pain and mental anguish, lost his normal life and incurred medical costs, the suit states.
His wife and next-of-kin have been permanently deprived of his love, companionship, guidance, society, support and consortium, have suffered permanent grief and have incurred medical and funeral costs, the complaint says.
Delisa Childress is seeking a judgment of more than $600,000, plus costs. She is being represented by Thomas Q. Keefe Jr. of Keefe and Keefe in Belleville.
