Springfield tenant sues over icy slip in parking lot in Madison County

In a recently filed complaint, a man blames his landlord for causing his broken leg, saying ice should not have been allowed to form on the parking lot where the man fell.

Andrew Hill filed a lawsuit March 4 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Connor Properties and Jermoe F. Connor.

In his complaint, Hill claims he attempted to walk to his vehicle on March 5, 2012, from his apartment at 2206 Westchester Blvd. in Springfield when he slipped and fell on ice.

Because of his fall, Hill suffered from a shattered fracture of his left femur, which required extensive surgery including permanent insertion of a lengthy rod and screws in his knees and hips, according to the complaint. He also incurred pain and suffering, endured permanent disfigurement, lost his mobility and his normal life and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Hill blames the defendants for causing his injuries, saying they negligently failed to maintain the surface of the lot, allowed a depression to form and exist and allowed ice to form in a depression that made it difficult to detect the frozen water.

Hill is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

He is being represented by James E. Gorman of Lucco, Brown, Threlkeld and Dawson in Edwardsville.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-353.
