Prairie State Generating sued over worker's inhalation of lime kiln dust

A man has filed suit against the companies that manufactured and supplied a substance that allegedly caused him to develop a respiratory condition.


Jerry Ohlendorf filed a lawsuit Feb. 20 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Prairie State Generating Company, Mississippi Lime Company and Beelman Logistics LLC.

According to the complaint, the defendants made and delivered a substance called lime kiln dust that Ohlendorf inhaled through his job as a truck driver from Jan. 20, 2008, through Dec. 7, 2008. Due to his inhalation of the substance, Ohlendorf was prevented from attending to his usual employment, incurred great pain and discomfort and suffered physical impairment, according to the complaint. He also incurred medical costs and suffered great pain and discomfort, the suit states.

Ohlendorf is seeking a judgment of more than $200,000, plus costs.

He is being represented by Dennis M. Field of Strellis and Field in Waterloo.
