Med mal suit filed over man's hand surgery

A man says he suffered pain and mental anguish after a doctor attempted to repair a tendon on the back of his hand and finger.

Frank Taylor filed a lawsuit Feb. 19 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dr. David S. Reid IV, New Dimensions Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis.

In his complaint, Taylor claims Reid was treating him and performed an open repair of Taylor’s extensor tendon avulsion. This type of procedure normally occurs when tendons on the back of the hands and fingers become injured, according to the complaint. Reid negligently performed a percutaneous pinning of the DIP joint, according to the complaint.

As a result, Taylor suffered significant injuries to his finger, sustained great pain and mental anguish and missed numerous working days and opportunities, the suit states. He also suffered permanent injuries to his finger, the complaint says.

Taylor is seeking a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs. He is being represented by Mark S. Peebles of Peebles and Associates in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 14-L-161.
