Wood River Wal-Mart sued over customer's grape slip

A Madison County Wal-Mart store is facing suit after a customer was injured while on the premises.

Elizabeth Heinemeier filed a lawsuit Jan. 21 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Wal-Mart Stores Inc., doing business as Walmart Supercenter Store No. 1071, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 3, 2013, the plaintiff was a customer at the defendant's store at 610 Wesley Drive, Wood River. On that date, she was shopping in the produce section when she slipped on a grape on the floor, causing her to fail, according to the suit. The plaintiff is accusing Wal-Mart of failing to maintain the premises in a safe condition and failing to warn customers of the dangers, which caused her to fall, injuring her wrist, arm and shoulder.

Heinemeier is seeking damages in excess of $75,000, plus court costs.

She is being represented in the case by attorney Craig J. Jensen.

Madison County Circuit Court Case No. 14L86.
