A St. Clair County couple have refiled a suit against the Young Men’s Christian Association of Southwest Illinois over a biking event injury.
Anndria and Nicholas Powers filed the suit Dec. 31, in the St. Clair Circuit Court citing negligence in the safety of the event the non-profit hosted.
The suit states Anndria Powers was a bicyclist in the second annual YMCA Sprint Triathlon on Sept. 25, 2010, on Douglas Road when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Estelle Mueth, who was driving west on Douglas Road. The suit alleges the YMCA should have warned motorists of the race, placed more safeguards around the event and provided safety vehicles for bikers. Anndria Powers, along with her husband Nicholas, state in the suit she suffered severe physical injuries due to the incident.
They previously sued over the same allegations in 2012.
They are seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs. They are being represented by D. Todd Mathews of Gori, Julian and Associates.
