Village of Caseyville and cop sued over alleged false arrest; Man claims he suffered epileptic seizure after tasing

A man is suing a police officer and village officials alleging he was falsely arrested.

Dennis Pea filed a lawsuit Dec. 20 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Gerard Spratt and the Village of Caseyville.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 21, 2012, Pea was arrested by defendant Spratt, who was working as an officer for the Caseyville Police Department, and charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a substance and driving under the influence.

Pea states that he was falsely arrested for the charges, and that at the time of the incident he was suffering from an epileptic seizure, caused in part because he was tased by Spratt.

Pea is seeking more than $50,000 in damages, plus costs. He is being represented in the case by attorney Eric M. Rhein.
