Deceased man's estate sued over crash that occurred year before death

A lawsuit filed against the estate of a deceased Granite City man claims he caused a crash more than a year before his death.

Mary and Vincent Feldman filed a lawsuit Dec. 20 in Madison County Circuit Court against Peter Michael Murgic and Rene Bassett-Butler, as special representative for the estate of Peter Michael Murgic.

According to the complaint, Vincent Feldman was a passenger in a Dodge Caravan being driven by Mary Feldman in December 2011. The Feldmans say they were driving north on Maryville Road. At the same time, Murgic was allegedly driving a Ford F150 truck on Chain of Rocks Road. As the Feldmans approached the intersection of Chain of Rocks Road they claim Murgic crashed into them.

The Feldmans say they were hurt in the crash and accuse Murgic of negligence. They ask for more than $200,000 in damages for medical expenses, lost wages and court fees. Bassett-Butler is named as a defendant as well, being named representative of Murgic's estate. Murgic passed away in April 2013, the lawsuit says.

Attorneys Patrick G. Johnston and Benjamin T. Stephens of Edwardsville represent the Feldmans. They request a jury trial.
