A customer is suing Granite City Kmart after allegedly being knocked down and injured by a closing automatic door.
Floyd E. Dooley filed a lawsuit Dec. 27 against Kmart Corporation of Illinois Inc. in Madison County Circuit Court.
Dooley was a customer of the Kmart store in the 3000 block of Nameoki Road in March 2012, according to the petition. As he walked toward the front of the store to enter, he says the automatic door opened. However, as he tried to walk through the door Dooley says it closed, knocking him down and causing him to be caught in the door.
He accuses the store of negligence for failing to maintain an automatic door that operates properly or warn customers that it may close without pausing. Dooley asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical bills, loss of income and costs of the lawsuit.
He is represented by attorney Steven M. Dioneda of St. Louis.
