Popeye's Chicken in Alton sued by customer claiming sink fell

A Madison County woman says she was hurt in the bathroom of an Alton Popeye's restaurant.

Chantel Jerman filed a lawsuit Dec. 19 in Madison County Circuit Court against Interfoods of America Inc., doing business as Popeye's Chicken & Biscuits.

According to the complaint, Jerman was a customer of Popeye's Chicken & Biscuits on Homer Adams Parkway in April 2012. Jerman says she took her young daughter to the restaurant's bathroom. While waiting for her daughter, Jerman says she leaned against a sink.

Jerman alleges the sink fell from the wall and broke into several pieces. She says she then fell on top of the debris. Jerman accuses the restaurant and its owner of negligence for failing to adequately mount the sink on the wall, maintain its upkeep or warn customers of the dangerous condition that existed in the bathroom.

Jerman asks for more than $100,000 in damages for medical expenses, lost wages and costs of the lawsuit. Attorney Matthew P. Young of Belleville represents her.
