BELLEVILLE – A patient has filed a lawsuit against his doctor and HSHS Medical Group, claiming he suffered an infection following surgery that led to amputation.
Plaintiff Bryce Kidman filed the lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Kevin McCarthy, M.D. and HSHS Medical Group, Inc., citing negligence.
According to the lawsuit, Kidman was the defendants' patient and admitted himself for care and surgery on his foot in June 2019.
Kidman alleges the defendants carelessly performed the surgery in a way that caused him to develop an infection on his foot. He also claims the defendants negligently failed to manage his infection post-operation. Kidman states that the infection advanced to the point that his foot needed to be amputated.
Kidman claims that as a result of the defendants' negligence, he has experienced disability, disfigurement, pain, suffering, mental anguish and lost wages. He also claims his injury will permanently impact his ability to enjoy normal life and earn income. He adds that he has incurred significant medical expenses and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover.
The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $75,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented in this case by attorney Thomas Q. Keefe, Jr. of Keefe, Keefe & Unsell, P.C. in Belleville.
