Former attorney Lakin dies at 82

Former attorney Lowell Thomas Lakin, 82, died Dec. 12 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Lakin had led the class action Lakin Law firm of Wood River and was co-founder of the Alton Belle Casino and Argosy Gaming.

He lost his law license in 2009, following conviction in federal court in October 2008 on charges of cocaine possession and distribution to a minor. He was sentenced to six years in prison, followed by supervised release. 

He also faced child sex offender charges in Madison County. He was not convicted, but agreed with prosecutors to register as a sex offender in 2011. He had admitted to committing sexual abuse on a 15 year old boy.
