EDWARDSVILLE – A motorist and her passenger claim another driver caused a rear-end collision in Alton and then fled the scene.

Plaintiffs Sheri Hill and Joshua Hill filed the lawsuit on April 1 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Melissa K. Pierce and Charles Abel, citing negligence.

According to the lawsuit, Sheri Hill was driving with Joshua Hill as a passenger on Oct. 9, 2020. They were heading westbound on Homer Adams Parkway in Alton when she was allegedly rear-ended by a vehicle being operated by Pierce. The suit states that Pierce fled the scene of the crash after striking the plaintiff’s vehicle.

Abel was also named in the lawsuit because he was the owner of the vehicle being driven by Pierce and allegedly loaned his vehicle to a driver that he knew to be “negligent."

The lawsuit states that the Hills were “severely and permanently injured” as a result of the collision, which will affect their ability to work and conduct normal activities. The Hills claim they incurred and will continue to incur medical bills for their injuries and recovery.

Sheri and Joshua are each seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs. They are represented in this case by attorney Allan L. Napp of Schrempf, Kelley & Napp, Ltd. In Alton.
