EDWARDSVILLE - A wrongful death suit alleges a motorist turned left in front of another driver in Olive Township, causing him to suffer fatal injuries in the crash.

Andrea Hulsey, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Joseph J. Hulsey, deceased, filed a lawsuit on Jan. 27 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Brittany Spriggs, alleging wrongful death.

According to the lawsuit, Joseph L. Hulsey was driving his 2007 Ford Focus southbound on Route 4 near DeCamp Road in Olive Township at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 22, 2021. At the same time, Briggs was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox northbound when she allegedly attempted to turn left into a gravel area when it was unsafe to do so. She allegedly collided with the decedent's vehicle, causing him to suffer fatal injuries.

Hulsey alleges Briggs negligently failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to brake to avoid a collision, failed to steer her vehicle to avoid a collision, attempted to turn when it was unsafe and failed to yield the right of way.

Andrea Hulsey claims she was caused to suffer great loss of her companion.

Hulsey seeks an amount is excess of $50,000, plus court costs. Hulsey is represented by Samuel A. Mormino, Jr. of Alton.
