Man injured at Smithton tavern sues alleged attacker

BELLEVILLE — A man claims he was hit by another patron at a Smithton tavern, causing him to fall backwards and suffer permanent injuries. 

Eric Boeving filed a complaint Feb. 19 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Rudy Diefenbach.

According to the complaint, Boeving was a customer at Meuth's Tavern in Smithton in March 2019 at around 9 p.m. He alleges that Diefnebach "intentionally struck" him and caused him to fall backwards onto the floor. 

As a result, Boeving claims he suffered injuries to his body and nervous system and has suffered pain and discomfort. He also claims his injuries have physically limited and restricted him permanently. 

Boeving allegedly lost income and incurred medical expenses due to his injuries.  

Boeving seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Nathan Lanter of Nelson & Nelson Attorneys At Law PC in Belleville.
