Motorist claims FedEx driver caused collision

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A motorist claims he was seriously injured in a vehicle collision when a FedEx driver failed to yield at an intersection.

Christopher King filed a complaint Jan. 15 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Brian Whitelaw and FedEx Ground Package Systems Inc., alleging negligence.

According to his suit, King was driving his vehicle on East Broadway near Barack Obama Avenue in St. Clair County on July 29, 2019. He alleges that FedEx employee Whitelaw, who was driving the defendant's freightliner, approached the intersection at the same time. King alleges Whitelaw failed to stop and yield, which caused him to collide with King's vehicle.  King claims the intersection is a "T intersection with stop signs in all there directions" and he had the right-of-way.

As a result of the collision, Whitelaw claims he suffered injuries to his arm, wrist and hand and required surgery to repair an open fracture. King alleges he has also suffered pain, lost wages and endured "emotional distress."

King seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. He is represented by Amanda Murphy of Goldblatt and Singer in St. Louis.
