Former Spencer Homes employee alleges retaliatory discharge

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A former employee of Spencer Homes claims he was fired in retaliation for filing a workers' compensation claim and for seeking medical treatment after suffering a work-related injury.

Jordan Ford filed a complaint Dec. 22 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Spencer Homes LLC, alleging retaliatory discharge.

According to the complaint, Ford was employed by Spencer Homes. He claims that on Dec. 4, 2018, he suffered a work-related injury while working on a home being built by Spencer. He requested Illinois Workers' Compensation benefits following his injury. However, he claims he was fired on Dec. 26, 2018, in retaliation for seeking medical treatment and workers compensation.

The plaintiff alleges his termination was an "unreasonable and vexatious discharge."

Ford claims he has suffered lost wages and fringe benefits as well as emotional trauma and pain and suffering.

He seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. Ford is represented by Michael Brunton of The Brunton Law Office PC in Collinsville.
