Woman alleges she suffered second degree burns after laser hair treatment

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A woman alleges she suffered second degree burns during a laser hair treatment at a Swansea dermatology office and spa.

Ladonna Thompson-Miller filed a complaint Nov. 12 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Steve Musick, M.D., Jane Doe with initials N.C., and Musick Dermatology & Advanced Clinical Spa alleging medical negligence.

According to the complaint, Thompson-Miller alleges she underwent "routine" laser hair treatment at Musick Dermatology & Advanced Clinic Spa on April 29, 2019, performed by N.C., a nurse practitioner. The plaintiff claims that while undergoing the procedure, N.C., placed the laser on "high setting." Thompson-Miller claims her face began to feel hot and she could smell burning. She alleges that after her session at Musick Dermatology & Advanced Clinic Spa, she had to go to an urgent care due to the burning sensation on her face and was diagnosed with second degree burns "all over her face and chin."

The plaintiff claims N.C., was negligent for not heeding her verbal warnings about her burning and pain. She also claims Musick Dermatology & Advanced Clinical Spa was negligent for failing to supervise N.C., whom the defendant represented to be a "competent nurse."

The plaintiff seeks monetary and all other proper relief. She is represented by R. Tyson Mutrux of The Mutrux Firm LLC in St. Louis.
