St. Louis University's Slucare, others sued after patient died from pulmonary embolism

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — St. Louis University's Slucare, Crossroads Community Hospital, and medical professionals are being sued after one of their patients suffered a postoperative pulmonary embolism, resulting in her death.

Glenn Glendenning, as special administrator of the Estate of Cynthia A. Glendenning, filed a complaint Oct. 6 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against St. Louis University doing business as Slucare Medical Group, Jason Keune, M.D., National Healthcare of Mt. Vernon, Inc., doing business as Crossroads Community Hospital, Kam Fung, M.D., and Integritas Emergency Physician Services LLC, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Cynthia Glendenning was under the care of the defendants from September 2018 through Oct. 10, 2018. During that time, the plaintiff alleges the defendants "negligently and carelessly" failed to diagnose, evaluate and treat the decedent's postoperative deep vein thrombosis and/or pulmonary thromboembolism. As a result, Cynthia Glendenning allegedly suffered a pulmonary embolism and brain injury that led to her death on Oct. 19, 2018.

The plaintiff also claims Keune and Fund were professionally negligent for failing to "apply knowledge and use the skill and care ordinarily used by a reasonable well-qualified health care provider."

Glenn Glendenning alleges that as a result of Cynthia Glendenning's death, he is "deprived of the reasonable value of her services, companionship, comfort, instruction, guidance, counsel, training, love and support."

The plaintiff seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Joseph Bartholomew of Cook, Bartholomew, Shevlin, Cook & Jones LLP in Belleville.
