BELLEVILLE — A man is suing Vascular and Hand Surgery Ltd. and a physician, alleging a patient died following surgery.

Nicholas Belcher, as independent executor of the estate of Jan R. Belcher, deceased, filed a complaint on June 11 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Robert D. H. Lee, MD, and Vascular and Hand Surgery Ltd. et al., alleging they failed to apply the knowledge and use the skill and care ordinarily used by well qualified healthcare providers.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on March 10, 2016, the defendants provided medical services to Jan Belcher. The decedent underwent surgery on Sept. 13, 2016, and suffered vascular complications that caused her death on Oct. 24, 2016, the suit states.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to inform the decedent that she could develop serious arterial vascular issues due to anesthesia, blood loss and post operative pain medicine management.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount in excess of $50,000, plus costs. 4
