BELLEVILLE – A widow alleges her husband died after being bitten by spiders at their rental property in Freeburg and that their landlords failed to exterminate the property.

Nicole Williams, as special administrator of the estate of Ronald Williams, filed a complaint on June 11 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Shelly J. Wolf and Robert M. Wolf, also of Freeburg, alleging wrongful death and negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff and her husband, the decedent, resided as tenants at the property located at 4744 State Route 13 in Freeburg, owned by the defendants. The suit states on March 15, 2017, Ronald Williams suffered spider bites while living at the rental property and died as a result of the bites on March 20, 2017.

Williams holds the Wolfs responsible because despite having knowledge of the presence of insects and spiders in their rental property, the defendants allegedly failed to exterminate them or allow chemical extermination of the premises. She claims the property was uninhabitable due to dangerous, uncontrolled insect and spider infestations.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants of more than $50,000 and all other relief that is fair and necessary.

She is represented by Ted N. Gianaris and G. Michael Stewart of Simmons Hanly Conroy in Alton.
