BELLEVILLE – A laborer alleges his lung cancer was caused by exposure to asbestos during his military and working careers.
Jessie B. Smith filed a complaint on Nov. 22 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Ameron International Corp., Armstrong Pumps Inc., Aurora Pump Co., et al. alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, Smith alleges that between 1972 and 1992, while serving the U.S. Navy and employed at Ingalls Shipbuilding, plaintiff claims he was exposed to and inhaled, ingested or otherwise absorbed large amounts of asbestos fibers emanating from certain products he was working with that were allegedly manufactured and distributed by defendants. As a result, he was diagnosed with lung cancer on Aug. 9, 2017, the suit states.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide any or adequate warnings to persons working with around the products of the dangers of inhaling, ingesting or otherwise absorbing the asbestos fibers contained in them.
The plaintiff seeks judgment to award compensatory damages to exceed $50,000, plus punitive damages, and for such other and further relief that the court deems appropriate. He is represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
