BELLEVILLE — A woman claims she was injured when she slipped on concrete stairs while exiting a Belleville pub.

Jennifer Plake filed a lawsuit July 11 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against D&B Entertainment Inc., doing business as Crehan's Irish Pub in Belleville, alleging negligence in failing to maintain its premises in a reasonably safe condition.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 21, 2015, Plake was attempting to exit Crehan's by descending the stairway when she fell down. The suit says Plake landed headfirst on the pavement, causing her to suffer pain and anguish and medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant carelessly maintained its premise, allowed precipitation on the stairs, failed to construct sufficient hand railings and treads on its stairs, plus its employees allowed the slippery and frozen condition of the stairs to continue.

Plake seeks trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs for this action and all other relief the court deems just and proper. She is represented by attorneys Mark C. Scoggins, Clay C. St. Clair, Anthony P. Gilbert and Natalie Sager Stepping of Crowder & Scoggins Ltd. in Columbia.
