Throw the penalty flag on St. Clair County judges

The Madison County Record Feb. 22, 2016, 6:34am

To the Editor:

St. Clair and Madison Counties have long been considered some of the worst jurisdictions in the country for legal fairness.

Instead of gaming the system to gain an advantage in the electoral process, St. Clair County judges should be looking at ways to bring reform to St. Clair County Courts.

These judges, who have received numerous campaign contributions from personal injury lawyers, are now following the lead of their friends in the plaintiffs’ bar who repeatedly game the system in the Metro-East to make sure they win and cash in. They want to change the rules mid-game for their own personal benefit. Taking a page from a football referee’s rule book, it’s time for us as citizens to blow the whistle on these types of shenanigans and throw the penalty flag on unsportsmanlike judicial conduct.

It is up to the courts to decide if these judges should remain on the ballot but even if what they are doing is technically legal – it certainly does not adhere to the spirit of the law. The actions of these judges simply underscores why St. Clair County and neighboring Madison County continue to be ranked among the worst court jurisdictions in the country.
