St. Clair County bowling alley denies liability in woman’s slip and fall suit

A St. Clair County bowling alley claims a woman caused her own injuries when she failed to keep a careful lookout in a lawsuit alleging she slipped and fell while using one of the bowling lanes.

Charlotte Lash filed the lawsuit on Aug. 21 against St. Clair Bowl Inc.

According to the complaint, Lash claims she slipped and fell on a slippery substance while approaching the bowling lane on Dec. 3, 2013. She claims the substance was oil.

Lash alleges St. Clair Bowl was negligent in failing to warn her of the slippery floor and failing to exercise reasonable care in the maintenance of their premises.

St. Clair Bowl answered the complaint on Sept. 21 through attorneys James Leritz and Kelly Kirkbride of Leritz Plunkert & Bruning in St. Louis.

The defendant argues that Lash’s alleged injuries were caused by her own negligence for failing to keep a careful lookout.

Lash responded to the affirmative defenses on Sept. 22 through attorney Matthew Young of Kuehn Beasley & Young in Belleville, denying each and every allegation.

She seeks damages of more than $50,000.
