Passenger sues motorist who allegedly caused a Belleville collision

A St. Clair County woman is suing a Belleville motorist, alleging negligence over injuries she allegedly sustained in a vehicle collision while riding as a passenger.

Althea Woolen filed a complaint on Sept. 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Irwin R. Jones of Belleville, alleging negligence.

On Feb. 13, 2014, the complaint states, Woolen was a passenger in a vehicle traveling eastbound on West Main Street in Belleville, when Jones' vehicle sideswiped the vehicle Woolen was in. The suit says Jones was negligent in failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failing to yield, failing to keep proper lookout, failing to obey the rules of the road and other negligent acts or omissions.

As a result, the lawsuit says, the plaintiff sustained injuries, loss of wages, loss of enjoyment of life, pain and suffering, and has incurred medical expenses.

Woolen seeks more than $50,000, plus costs of the suit. She is represented by attorney Matthew P. Young of Kuehn, Beasley & Young in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 15-L-526.
