Eddie's Lounge named in suit over trip on smoking area steps

A woman claims she sustained multiple right leg, ankle and foot fractures after falling on uneven steps while exiting a Granite City bar.

Alisa S. Thompson filed a lawsuit Oct. 22 in Madison County Circuit Court against J.W. Dunn doing business as Eddie’s Lounge and James W. Dunn.

Thompson claims she was visiting Eddie’s Lounge on Dec. 23, 2010, when she fell on steps connecting the bar to an elevated smoking area. However, there was no warning of the incline, according to the complaint.

“There are two steps to the doorway of the additional room, one step with an eight inch rise, and the second step with a four inch rise, and the tread between the two steps approximately ten and one fourth inch long,” the suit states.

Thompson blames the defendants for causing her fall, saying they negligently maintained a room at a different level than the rest of the bar and added two different heights of steps to connect the two rooms, among other negligent actions.

Because of her fall, in addition to her fractures, Thompson incurred substantial medical costs, experienced pain and suffering, sustained permanent injuries and disabilities, endured physical restrictions and lost wages, the complaint says. She also experienced discomfort and physical restrictions, according to the complaint.

W. Michael Gnavi of Gnavi Law Offices in Collinsville will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-1699.
