Injury suit filed three weeks after accident

A man claims he suffered back, neck and head injuries after a driver rear-ended his vehicle as he sat in his vehicle, obeying a red traffic signal.

Charles D. Bonnell filed a lawsuit Nov. 14 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Patrick V. Nacanaynay.

In his complaint, Bonnell alleges he drove east on Illinois Route 15 at its intersection with South 11 Street in Belleville on Oct. 21, 2011, at about 6:30 p.m. when he stopped for a red traffic signal. Suddenly, Nacanaynay, who was driving behind him, rear-ended his vehicle.

In addition to his injuries, Bonnell was prevented from attending to his ordinary affairs, incurred medical costs, lost income and suffered great pain and disability because of the collision, according to the complaint.

Bonnell blames Nacanaynay for causing the collision, saying he negligently drove too fast, failed to stop to avoid a collision, failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision, failed to apply his brakes and failed to come to a complete stop at the intersection.

In his complaint, Bonnell is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Bernard J. Ysursa of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-639.
