Hematologist failed to diagnose leukemia, suit claims

A woman has filed suit against the hematologist who she claims failed to diagnose her recently deceased husband with chronic myeloid leukemia.

Jackie Aslone claims defendant Dr. Mark Woodson, who worked for defendant Hematology and Oncology Consultants, treated her husband, John Aslone, from Jan. 11 through April 17, 2007. However, during Woodson's treatment of John Aslone, he failed to diagnose symptoms that should have led him to further investigate John Aslone's condition, failed to perform additional testing on John Aslone and caused John Aslone to suffer from a progressive state of chronic myeloid leukemia, according to the complaint filed April 1 in Madison County Circuit Court.

As a result of Woodson's treatment, John Aslone suffered from a progressive state of chronic myeloid leukemia; experienced pain, suffering and disability; and incurred medical costs before his death.

In her four-count suit, Jackie Aslone seeks an unspecified judgment, plus costs.

She will be represented by John J. Hopkins of John J. Hopkins and Associates in Edwardsville.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-376.
