A minor woman and her father say they sustained injuries costing them more than $60,000 in missed work and medical costs after a driver rear-ended their vehicle.
Lisa and David Levy filed a lawsuit Feb. 3 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Carlo Gordon.
The Levys claim their daughter, Lauren Levy, drove a 1995 Saturn owned by David Levy south on 1400 Freemont Street north of its intersection with Lebanon Avenue in Belleville on July 17 when Gordon, who drove a 2003 Buick Lasabre behind her, struck her vehicle. At the time of the collision, David Levy rode as a passenger in the vehicle.
The Levys blame Gordon for causing the accident, saying he dropped his cell phone, then looked down to pick it up. In addition, he negligently failed to keep his vehicle under control, failed to take evasive action to an accident, failed to apply his brakes, drove in an unsafe manner, failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision and followed Levy's vehicle too closely, according to the complaint.
Because of the accident, Lauren Levy and her dad, David Levy, sustained injuries to their necks and heads; sustained great pain and mental anguish; incurred disability; lost their normal lives; and missed numerous working days, the suit states.
Lauren Levy also sustained injuries to her back, while David Levy suffered injuries to his right shoulder.
In the three-count suit, the Levys seek a judgment of more than $60,000, plus costs.
Steven E. Katzman of Katzman and Associates in Belleville will be representing them.
