A woman has filed suit against the driver who she says rear-ended her.

Joyce M. Martin claims she was driving south on Highway 157 in Caseyville on Feb. 27 when Richard J. Hester, who was also driving south, struck her.

Because of the accident, Martin had to be hospitalized, incurred medical costs, experienced great pain, suffering and emotional distress and was unable to carry out her usual duties and activities, according to the complaint filed Dec. 10 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. In addition, she lost wages, the suit states.

Hester negligently drove too fast, failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision, failed to keep a lookout for other vehicles on the road and caused a rear-end collision, the complaint says.

Martin is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Gregory D. Abel, Cindy R. Baum and Coryn I. Steinfeld of Hausmann-McNeilly in Decatur will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-655.
