For more than 25 years, Robert Becker served as the attorney for Southwestern Illinois College.
"But he was more than that. He was a friend to the field of education," said Jeane Dibble, a professor of law at SWIC who is donating the law library within the SWIC Library in Becker's name.
Becker died in 2005. Last year his law firm Becker, Paulson, Hoerner and Thompson made a financial gift to the SWIC Foundation for the establishment of the Robert Becker Memorial Fund.
The fund will provide scholarships for pre-law and paralegal students and subsidies for other educational needs of both students and faculty.
To support the memorial fund, the SWIC Foundation, the Paralegal Advisory Committee and SWIC's Business Division are co-hosting a cocktail party fundraiser April 12 at the Schmidt Art Center on the college's Belleville Campus.
