To the Editor:
Voters have a clear choice this fall. Maintain honesty and integrity on the Illinois Supreme Court or allow a group of the rich and powerful to essentially buy a seat on the state’s highest court.
Attorneys from St. Louis, Chicago and even South Carolina are behind a million dollar campaign to attack the personal integrity Justice Lloyd Karmeier who is seeking retention on the Illinois Supreme Court.
With their vast fortunes, this attorney group is trying to intimidate the court and buy the bench by determining who sits on the highest court in the state.
When you realize that these same attorneys have cases before the State Supreme Court that could award them $1.7 billion in legal fees, you can guess their motivation.
This is the kind of influence that once gave Illinois’ court system a black eye.
Justice Lloyd Karmeier is a man of honor and integrity who helped restore fairness and equality under the law when he was first elected to the Illinois Supreme Court.
Allowing these rich and powerful attorneys to prevail means going backwards. Justice should never be for sale or influenced by a fat checkbook.
On Election Day, keep our State Supreme Court free from influence and intimidation. Let’s keep honesty and integrity in place and vote YES for the retention of Justice Lloyd Karmeier.
