The city of Mascoutah claims it incurred expensive financial costs when a driver struck fiber optic and electric lines.
The city of Mascoutah filed a lawsuit June 4 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Robert L. Weber and Wuebbels and Sons Farms.
In its complaint, the city claims Weber was driving a John Deere 9430 tractor with attached equipment on the east side of the 800 block of North Sixth Street in Mascoutah when the equipment struck a fiber optic and electric line the city owned. In turn, a utility pole broke, causing Mascoutah residents to lose electricity, according to the complaint.
Because of the incident, the city suffered damages to its property and suffered financial losses, the suit states. The city also incurred repair costs, the complaint says.
The city blames Weber for causing its damages, saying he kept the implement attached to the tractor he was operating at an unsafe height and drove in an unsafe manner.
In addition to Weber, the city names Wuebbels and Sons Farms as a defendant, saying it employed Weber, according to the complaint.
The city seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs. It is being represented by attorney Alvin C. Paulson of Belleville.
