Woman says she was injured in pitbull attack

In recently filed court documents, a woman claims she suffered severe and permanent injuries after a dog attacked her while she was visiting a home.

Nicole Barnes filed a lawsuit Feb. 5 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Bonnie Shelton, Danny B. Shelton and Audrey Shelton.

In her complaint, Barnes alleges she was visiting the Sheltons, who live at 410 South Seventh St. in Caseyville, on Feb. 25, 2011, when a boxer or pitbull attacked her.

In addition to her injuries, Barnes suffered great pain and anguish, incurred medical costs and lost wages, according to the complaint.

Barnes blames the Sheltons for contributing to her injuries, saying they negligently allowed their dog to bite her, failed to sufficiently secure the dog, failed to restrain the dog and allowed the dog to roam unsecured on the property even though they knew of its dangerous nature.

In her complaint, Barnes seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.
Steven C. Giacoletto of Collinsville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-67.
