Former Edwardsville High School golfer alleges injuries from unmonitored electric pain relief

Federal Court

BENTON – Edwardsville High School staff failed to control electric pain relief for former varsity golfer Bailey Vorachek and burned her back, according to her counsel Grey Chatham Jr. of Belleville.

Chatham sued the school district in U.S. district court on Dec. 14, claiming scars would remain for the rest of Vorachek’s life.

He stated she was born in 2004 and resides in Bell County, Texas.

He claimed she developed a sports injury that manifested itself in her back.

Chatham wrote that athletic training staff prescribed a transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator in November 2019.

He claimed nursing staff applied it but no one observed or monitored the treatment for a prolonged period of time while it was in contact with bare skin.

Chatham claimed staff failed to set a timing device.

He wrote that when staff removed the unit, bandaging was immediately applied.

He claimed she returned home, observed severe burns, and sought treatment.

Online sources show a variety of recommendations for electrotherapy breaks.

One recommends ten minutes after an hour, one recommends ten minutes after 20 minutes, and one recommends 20 minutes after 30 minutes.

The court clerk assigned Senior District Judge Phil Gilbert to preside.
