EDWARDSVILLE — A couple is suing Ameron International and dozens of other users of asbestos products, alleging failure to warn and negligence.
Cecelia Jones and Thomas Jones, who currently live in Arizona, filed a complaint Feb. 4 in Madison County Circuit Court against dozens of defendants, alleging failure to exercise due care and caution for the safety of others.
According to the complaint, since the start of her work career in the 1960s, Cecelia Jones was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by the defendants. In January , the suit says, she first became aware that she had developed mesothelioma, an asbestos-induced disease.
Jones says she has suffered great physical pain, mental anguish and has become liable for large sums of money for medical expenses. Thomas Jones alleges he has been deprived of the society, service and consortium of his wife.
The plaintiffs allege the defendants negligently included asbestos in their products, even though it was foreseeable that these fibers could have toxic, poisonous and highly deleterious effect to a person's health.
The Joneses seek trial by jury, judgment exceeding $50,000 and all other just and equitable relief. They are represented by attorney Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
