Suit alleges nursing home patient injured after falling

By Angelica Saylo Pilo | Nov 6, 2018

BELLEVILLE — A nurse and the operators of a long-term care facility are accused of failing to properly care for a patient.

Peter Hall, as power of attorney for Genevieve J. Hall, filed a complaint on Oct. 8 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against St. Paul's Home, St. Andrew's Management Services Inc. and Julie M. Reeves, RN, alleging they violated the Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Sept. 16, 2016, Genevieve Hall was first admitted to the defendant's nursing care facility after she suffered a recent fall. The suit alleges the defendants failed to ensure the patient's health and safety, failed to provide wound care treatment and adequate hydration and failed to provide a care plan for fall risk and interventions to prevent her from falling.

As a result of the defendants' negligence, she suffered multiple falls, a subcapital femoral fracture, skin breakdown, a pressure ulcer and a sacral ulcer, the suit states.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in excess of the jurisdictional limits of the court. He is represented by Eva E. Golabek of Kralovec, Jambois, & Schwartz in Chicago.
