BELLEVILLE — A woman claims a distracted driver caused a rear-end collision.

Sarah Coston filed a complaint on Oct. 22 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Christopher Cotton, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 21, 2016, the defendant allegedly caused a rear-end collision near the intersection of Highway 61 and Royal Heights Road.

Coston claims she sustained both temporary and permanent injuries and has incurred medical expenses and hospital bills.

The plaintiff holds Cotton responsible because the defendant allegedly traveled at an excessive speed without keeping proper lookout and followed plaintiff's vehicle too closely.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in her favor in an amount in excess of $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by Lanny Darr of Darr Law Offices Ltd. in Alton.
