BELLEVILLE — A veteran and laborer wants to confront many well-known corporations in court over his alleged asbestos exposure.

Thomas D. Griffith filed a complaint on July 27 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dow Chemical Company, Crane Company, BMW Constructors and several others, citing negligence for not warning about the dangers of asbestos.

According to the complaint, Griffith served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973 before moving on to welding and sales in Bushnell, Illinois. During this time, he claims products made by the defendants contained asbestos fibers. Earlier this year, Griffith developed a type of lung cancer consistent with asbestos exposure, the lawsuit claims.

Griffith seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. He is represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates in Edwardsville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 18-L-505
