EDWARDSVILLE — Two Granite City men accuse Vivint Home Security and an employee of deceiving them during a free home security system inspection.
Rick Donaldson and Kenneth Tripler filed separate complaints on July 16 in Madison County Circuit Court against Vivint Home Security and Ben Caneveri, alleging deceptive practices, negligence and fraud.
According to the complaint, Canevari approached the plaintiffs about upgrading their security systems. The plaintiffs each claim Canevari falsely told them that Vivint Home Security merged with another well-known company and the homeowners needed a new panel box.
Donaldson alleges Vivint Home Security then began to bill him every month, even after he told them to stop, his complaint states.
Tripler claims he was coerced into signing a contract and later received several bills, including after he closed his account, his complaint states.
The plaintiffs each seek a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. They are both represented by Phillip Baldwin of Scroggins Law Office in Granite City.
