BELLEVILLE – A husband and wife allege the man's lung cancer was caused by exposure to asbestos during his life and employment.

Jerry Tyler and Linda Tyler filed a complaint on June 20 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Honeywell International Inc., John Crane Inc., Union Carbide Corp., et al. alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that at various times during Jerry Tyler's employment and non-occupational work, he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by defendants. The suit states Jerry Tyler was employed by General Motors in Flint, Michigan from 1961 to 1992.

The suit states that on or about Sept. 20, 2017, he first became aware that he developed lung cancer, an asbestos-induced disease, and that the disease was wrongfully caused.

The plaintiffs hold Honeywell International Inc., John Crane Inc., Union Carbide Corp., et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently included asbestos fibers in their products when adequate substitutes were available and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiffs seek compensatory damages of more than $50,000, plus costs and any further relief as the court deems appropriate. They are represented by Ethan A. Flint and Laci M. Whitley of Flint Law Firm LLC in Edwardsville.
