Motorist alleges State Farm failed to pay underinsured motorist claim

Insurance 01

EDWARDSVILLE — A Madison County man alleges his insurance company failed to pay his underinsured motorist claim following a May 2016 collision.

Stephen Matlock filed a complaint on May 31 in the Madison County Circuit Court against State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, alleging the insurer failed to respond to the plaintiff's settlement demands.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 10, 2016, he was injured in a motor vehicle collision caused by the carelessness of an underinsured driver. At the time of the crash, he had fully paid all premiums as required by the contract.

However, Matlock claims State Farm failed to pay his underinsured motorist claim.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000, plus costs of court and all other relief deemed just and proper.

He is represented by Rodney D. Caffey and Ralph J. Mendelson of The Caffey Law Firm LLC in Godfrey.
