Woman sues former partner for alleged battery

EDWARDSVILLE — A woman is suing her former live-in partner for allegedly refusing to let her leave and intentional battery. 

Debra Ramirez filed a complaint on May 21, in the Madison County Circuit Court against Michael R. Franks, alleging he violated the Gender Violence Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that within the last seven years, she suffered physical abuse and unlawful detention by the defendant. 

The plaintiff alleges Franks wrongfully committed acts of intentional battery by kicking, punching and shoving her to the wall and by holding her down so she could not leave.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages in excess of $50,000, plus punitive damages in an amount 10 times the compensatory damages, attorney fees, costs and all other injunctive relief deemed appropriate.
