Godfrey Healthcare accused of failing to provide proper care

Medical malpractice 07

EDWARDSVILLE — A woman alleges a long-term care facility failed to properly care for a resident, resulting in her death.

Deborah Goforth, executor of the estate of Wanda L. Stromske, deceased, filed a complaint March 26 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Godfrey Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center LLC, doing business as Integrity HC of Godfrey, alleging the facility breached its duty to exercise ordinary care in a manner that would not cause injury to Stromske.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that Godfrey Healthcare staff allowed Stromske to chew on her right index finger, which caused an infection. She was treated at St. Anthony's Hospital, and on April 29, 2016, her index finger was amputated.

After the surgery, her health deteriorated and she died Sept. 7, 2016, due to complications, the complaint states.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to provide adequate and properly supervised nursing and personal care, employ sufficient staff and provide treatment and services to promote healing.

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs of this action and all further relief as the court deems just.

She is represented by Robert H. Gregory of Law Office of Robert H. Gregory PC in East Alton.
