Motorist allegedly failed to obey signal, caused Bethalto collision

EDWARDSVILLE – A woman alleges she was injured in a collision in Bethalto when another driver failed to obey a traffic signal.

Brianna M. Johnson filed a complaint on Feb. 26 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Rebekah B. Whyers, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on March 12, 2016, she was traveling on North Bellwood Drive at its intersection with Route 140 in Bethalto when Whyers carelessly entered the intersection and struck her vehicle.

Johnson claims she sustained injuries that resulted in medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages and disability. 

The plaintiff alleges Whyers failed to obey a traffic signal, failed to maintain a careful lookout and failed to reduce her speed.

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs of this action and any further relief the court may deem just and proper.
