Deliveryman seeks damages after dog bite at Mascoutah property

BELLEVILLE – A deliveryman is seeking damages after he was attacked by a dog with an alleged history of bites and attacks at a Mascoutah property.

Edward Schneider filed a complaint on Jan. 8 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Robert Stauder, Linda Stauder, Jason Stauder and Accredited Automotive, citing the Illinois Animal Control Act, negligence and common law strict liability.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 20, 2016, he was delivering auto parts to the defendants' premises on Brickyard Road in Mascoutah when he was attacked by a pit bull mix dog. 

He alleges he suffered a severe puncture wound and tear to his right hand, great fright and shock, pain and suffering and incurred medical expenses. 

The plaintiff alleges the defendants recklessly allowed the pit bull to run freely while he was delivering auto parts and failed to warn him that the dog was vicious and dangerous.

The plaintiff seeks judgment in his favor in an amount in of more than $50,000 and any further relief as the court may deem just and proper.
