Woman alleges nursing center patient died from dehydration

BELLEVILLE — A representative of a deceased patient claims the Willow Creek nursing center failed to care for the patient or provide proper nutrition. 

Bonnie Nichols, as independent administrator of the estate of Oddie Bibbs, deceased, filed a complaint on Nov. 30 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Helia Healthcare of Belleville, doing business as Willow Creek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, et al., for allegedly violating the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 2, 2015, Oddie Bibbs died due to severe dehydration while under the care of the defendants. Nichols claims the decedent's nutrition was not updated and he was continuously under-nourished from the time he was admitted at the nursing home on April 29, 2015 until his death. 

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide the necessary care and services to attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being and failed maintain the highest level of the patient's physical and mental well-being during residence in accordance with a comprehensive assessment and plan of care.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in an amount in excess of $75,000, plus costs and attorney fees.
