Motorist sued over Swansea collision

Car accident 13

BELLEVILLE – Two individuals allege they were injured in a collision in Swansea when another driver failed to stop at a stoplight.

Keith Monken and Linda Monken filed a complaint on Oct. 2 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Carmela Sandiego, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on May 14, they were in a 2005 Ford Explorer traveling westbound on Greenhaven Drive near its intersection with North Illinois Street in the city of Swansea. At the same time, the defendant was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry when she allegedly struck the plaintiffs' vehicle.

As a result, they claim they sustained serious and permanent injuries all over their bodies, resulting in medical expenses, disability, loss of normal life and loss wages.

The plaintiffs holds Sandiego responsible because the defendant allegedly negligently operated her vehicle at a high rate of speed and in an unsafe manner, failed to stop at a stop light and failed to take evasive actions.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek damages of more than $50,000 plus costs of this suit. They are represented by Steven A. Katzman of Katzman & Sugden LLC in Belleville.
