Couple alleges Akebono Brake Corp., others' products caused husband's lung cancer

Asbestos 12

BELLEVILLE – A couple has filed suit against multiple corporations over allegations of negligent use of asbestos fibers.

William Bruton and Yayeth Bruton filed a complaint on Sept. 6 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against A.W. Chesterton Inc., Akebono Brake Corp., Ameron International Corp., et al. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that between 1965 and 2001, William Bruton was allegedly exposed to asbestos containing products while serving the Marines, working as a laborer for various companies and through his father. He alleges he first became aware that he had developed lung cancer on Feb. 22.

The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because they failed to provide any or adequate warnings to persons working with and around the products of the dangers of inhaling, ingesting or otherwise absorbing the asbestos fibers contained in them.

The plaintiffs seek judgment for a sum of more than $50,000, which will fairly and reasonably compensate for the injuries. They are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates, PC in Edwardsville.
